Hunter Pence and the RBI
Entering the 2012 campaign, Hunter Pence had been around a 3 to 5 Wins Above Replacement guy, throughout his five year career. This season, Hunter Pence combined career lows in Batting Average, On Base and Slugging…
2012 MLB Predictions
Spring is the time of rebirth and hope. This is the most hopeful time of year. Baseball is Spring. Hope is in the air, unless you're a realistic fan of teams from Houston, Oakland, Chicago, or Baltimore. In towns all…
Thoughts on the NL East
On an evening subway ride and a couple lonely bar stools, recently, I wrote about my feelings (about the NL East)... Philadelphia Phillies do not like In light of Jonathan Papelbon 's record-setting deal with the…
Contact and Power in the Postseason
There are four playoff games today, which should be great fun to follow. In anticipation of the excitement, we thought it would be fun to check in on the players in the postseason to see which batters have the lowest…
MLB Division Series Sunday Recaps
Friends and visitors, let's try something a little different today. Tigers 5, Yankees 3 Series tied 1-1 Heroes: Max Scherzer silenced the Yankee bats and his critics who claimed his inconsistencies suggested he couldn't…
2011 Ex Cub Factor
The playoffs begin today. Since my favorite team, the Chicago Cubs, tanked and haven't been competitive in years, all I can do is watch and fight my jealous feelings. We're not really into gambling over here, but…

2010 Ex-Cub Factor
There's reason for hope in Philadelphia. Although Roy Halladay lost game one of the NLCS, the infamous ex-Cub factor, which was orignially penned by Ron Berler in the Boston Herald on October 15, 1981, gives hope to the…
Halladay in the History Books
Quick, think of the best pitching performances you've ever seen or heard of. What comes to mind? Roy Halladay tonight? Roy Halladay's perfect game? Don Larsen's perfect game in the 1956 World Series? Koufax in '65? Jack…
2010 MLB Postseason Picks
As loyal readers of this space know, we spent a lot of time calculating comparisons of expected outcomes for the postseason teams. The rewards of that exercise are hard to quantify, which is a euphemistic was of saying…
MLB Team Snapshots
The Beautiful Mind level insanity around the AL Previews formula I've been tinkering with and referred to in these two posts should (hopefully) be done today. In an effort to not let the homework slow down our…
Player of the Fortnight vol. 4
Sunday morning is a good a time as any to paraphrase. A wise baseball man once said, "Just give me their stats for the last two weeks, and that'll tell me who's going good," or something to that effect. Thinking of that…
